A man ran into a bridge on Apex Barbecue Road near Evans Road in Apex around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, causing his car to go over the bridge into a creek. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the Apex Police Department.

An Apex Middle School teacher in Apex, North Carolina was suspended following a disturbing incident that was caught on camera and went viral on social media. WNCN reports that while Dick Wesendunk was arguing with one of his African American students on Wednesday, he compared the boy to a slave.

Apex, N.C. a A North Carolina middle-school teacher captured on video comparing a student to a slave has been suspended. Local media outlets report the teacher at Apex Middle School, about 15 miles southwest of Raleigh, is heard on video telling the student he was being controlled by kids just as slaves were controlled by owners.

The highway is often congested, but engineers hope a plan to widen it between U.S. Highway 1 and Olive Chapel Road could ease some travel headaches for residents. Project manager Zahid Baloch says DOT is looking at two design possibilities for the highway.

Vice President of the Raleigh-Apex NAACP Gerald Givens Jr. said the long-awaited meeting with Superintendent Jim Merrill was hardly the open dialouge he hoped it would be. Givens and another board member were kept out of the closed-door meeting, despite the fact that the NAACP chapter's President Dr. Portia Rochelle had said she was sick and was running late.

Sector North Carolina watchstanders in Wilmington received notification that the 40-foot sailboat The Eleventh Hour had ran aground near Reef Point and was taking on water with two people aboard. The Coast Guard responded by sending a 29-foot Rescue Boat-Small crew from Station Elizabeth City.
